POST-WAR U.S. CIVIL DEFENSE HELMET

The OCD (Office of Civil Defense) helmet was designed to keep its wearer safe from shrapnel incase of a bombing threat. Developed in 1941, using recycled M1917 helmets, this helmet was issued to air raid wardens and civilian volunteers of the OCD until the end of WWII, and even saw use during the cold war being used in nuclear threat drills.
Manufactured using Hadfield steel this helmet is a rugged piece of head gear. Features a leather liner for comfort and the original stamping on the brim reading “U.S. GOVT. PROPERTY O.C.D.” Perfect for collectors of WWII gear or American historical relics.
